Cooling sheets for hot sleepers
Made for people who sleep warm.
If you are kicking the covers off, waking at three too warm, or getting up damp, your sheets are part of it. Cotton absorbs moisture and holds it against the skin. Eucalyptus lyocell behaves differently: the structure of the fibre carries heat away from the body and moves moisture away from the skin, with no finish to wash off.

No awkward emails. No hoops to jump through. If you have already tried fans, lighter duvets and other sheets, this takes the risk of trying one more thing off you.
Your sheets are part of the problem
Most bedding is cotton, a fibre that absorbs moisture rather than dispersing it. Sweat in the night and cotton holds it against the skin, which is why you wake up damp rather than simply warm.
Fabrics sold as cooling often rely on a finish applied to the surface. Finishes wash out, which is why a set that felt cool in the first month can feel ordinary by the sixth.
Eucalyptus lyocell behaves differently because the temperature regulation belongs to the fibre itself rather than to anything applied to it. There is nothing to wash out, and the fabric softens with each wash instead of stiffening.
“One of us tends to be a hot sleeper, but these sheets are amazing at temperature regulation. We have both noticed a huge difference in how we sleep.”Verified Trustpilot review
What the fabric does
while you sleep
The temperature regulation is a property of eucalyptus lyocell itself, not a treatment applied to it. That is why it does not wash out.
Heat is carried away
The structure of the fibre carries heat away from the body rather than holding it against you.
Moisture moves away
The fabric moves moisture away from the skin, so the sleep surface stays drier through the night.
And it stays that way
Because the property is structural rather than a finish, it does not wash out. The fabric simply relaxes and softens as you use it.
How eucalyptus lyocell compares
to what is already on your bed
| The Sheets | Cotton | Treated cooling fabrics | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where the cooling comes from | The structure of the fibre | Not a cooling fibre | A finish applied to the surface |
| Moisture | Moved away from the skin | Absorbed and held on the skin | Varies by treatment |
| After many washes | Unchanged, and softer | Stiffens and degrades | Finishes wash out over time |
| Fibre content | 100% eucalyptus lyocell | Natural cotton fibre | Often blended or synthetic |
| Certification | OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and FSC | Varies by producer | Varies by producer |
| Guarantee | 30 nights, full refund | Varies by brand | Varies by brand |
Cotton and treated fabrics vary a great deal by producer and weave. This compares the general behaviour of each material rather than any particular brand.
How to choose cooling sheets
“Cooling sheets” has become a crowded label. Some sheets earn it through the fibre they are made from. Others earn it through a surface treatment that performs well for the first few weeks and then quietly stops working. Before you buy any set, ours included, these are the things worth checking.
- Fibre content, not the word “cooling”Marketing language tells you nothing about performance. The fibre does, so look for it named on the label.
- Whether the cooling is a coating or the fibreSurface finishes can wash out over time. A property of the fibre itself does not.
- Thread count, though not the way you might thinkA higher thread count usually means a denser weave with less airflow, so it can sleep warmer rather than cooler. More on this in why thread count is a myth.
- Weave, if you are buying cottonPercale sleeps cooler than sateen, although cotton still absorbs moisture and holds it against the skin.
- Weight and densityA heavier, denser fabric traps more heat, whatever it is made from.
- The trial periodCooling performance is hard to judge from a listing or a single night. Look for at least 30 nights on your own bed.
Where this leaves you
Natural fibres with an open or wicking structure, such as eucalyptus lyocell or linen, are the more reliable choice for cooling that lasts. The trade-off is usually price and, with linen, a more textured feel than many people expect from bedding. Lyocell is smooth and silky.
