Bedding Size Guide

A double bed dressed in white eucalyptus lyocell sheets, duvet cover and pillowcases

Choosing the right size is the difference between a sheet that stays put all night and one you remake at three in the morning. Here is how UK bed sizes work, what each piece of The Sheets measures, and how to check your own bed in a couple of minutes.

UK bed sizes at a glance

UK mattresses come in standard sizes. The Sheets are made in the three most common for adults: Double, King and Super King.

Bed size Standard UK mattress In feet The Sheets size
Double 135 x 190cm 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in Double
King 150 x 200cm 5ft x 6ft 6in King
Super King 180 x 200cm 6ft x 6ft 6in Super King

A UK King is smaller than a European king. If your bed came from a European retailer, check the measurements in the next section before you order.

What each piece measures

Every full set includes a deep fitted sheet, a duvet cover and four pillowcases, cut to these dimensions.

Piece Double King Super King
Fitted sheet 140 x 190cm 150 x 200cm 180 x 200cm
Fitted sheet pocket depth 34cm 34cm 34cm
Duvet cover 200 x 200cm 230 x 220cm 260 x 220cm
Pillowcases Four per set, 50 x 75cm, envelope closure, the same in every size

How to measure your bed

  1. Measure the width of the mattress from one side to the other, across the top.
  2. Measure the length from the head of the mattress to the foot.
  3. Measure the depth from the top surface to the bottom edge. If you use a mattress topper, measure with it in place.
  4. Match the width and length to the first table, then check your depth against the 34cm pocket.

On deep mattresses. Many modern mattresses, especially with a topper, are deeper than a standard fitted sheet allows for. The Sheets have a 34cm pocket with elastic all the way round, made for mattresses and toppers up to that depth, so the corners stay where you put them.

Choosing your duvet cover

Duvet covers are sized to match the duvet, not the mattress. Most people use a duvet the same size as their bed, but some choose one size up for more overhang, particularly when sharing. Check the label on your duvet and match it to the cover sizes above. The four internal corner ties hold the duvet in place so it does not bunch inside the cover.

Pillows

The pillowcases fit a standard UK pillow, 50 x 75cm. Every set includes four, so two people can each have a spare, or you can swap to a fresh one without changing the whole bed.

Size questions

Will a Double fitted sheet fit a small double bed?

A small double, 120 x 190cm, is narrower than a standard Double. The Double fitted sheet is cut for a 135cm wide mattress, so it would sit loosely on a small double.

My mattress is 140 x 200cm. Which size should I choose?

That is a European double. It is 10cm longer than the Double fitted sheet, so the King, at 150 x 200cm, is the closer fit for length. If you are unsure, get in touch before you order and we will help you choose.

What if my mattress is deeper than 34cm?

The pocket is made for mattresses and toppers up to 34cm deep. If yours is deeper, the sheet may not tuck fully under the edges.

Can I buy pieces separately?

Yes. The duvet cover, fitted sheet and pillowcase pairs are also sold individually, in the same sizes. The full set costs less than buying each piece on its own.

What if the size is not right?

Every set comes with a 30-night guarantee. If it is not right for you, we will refund you in full.
